DescriptionA matted World War II poster promoting war bonds commissioned from N.C. Wyeth first printed in 1943. The poster depicts Uncle Sam in the center of the scene, in a billow of smoke holding an American flag in his left hand and pointing forward with his right hand, urging the U.S. troops forward. The troops are below Uncle Sam, marching on the battle field and airplanes are flying overhead. "Buy War Bonds" is printed in bold, capital letters along the bottom of the poster.

Bonds were sold by the United States government during WWII as a way to finance the war. Citizens would by the bonds, which loaned the money to the government, and the government would repay them at a later date.

Newell Convers “N.C.” Wyeth was born on October 22, 1882 in Needham, Massachusetts. He was an American illustrator and painter, with works appearing in numerous magazines as well as classic story books published by Charles Scribner’s Sons. During WWI and WWII Wyeth created posters for the U.S. Government. He passed away on October 19, 1945, when his car was hit by an oncoming train.
