DescriptionA black and white photograph of Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Jim Guy Tucker speaking to reporters on November 5, 1992. A judge ruled that Tucker would replace former Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, who had been elected as President of the United States, as acting governor for the remainder of his term.

James “Jim” Guy Tucker Jr. was born on June 13, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On November 8, 1975 he married Betty Allen Alworth. In 1990, Tucker won the race for Lieutenant Governor, and he became acting Governor when Clinton began his presidential campaign. Tucker then became governor in December 1992 upon Clinton’s resignation, and in 1994 Tucker was elected the forty-third Governor of Arkansas. After he left office, Tucker went on to focus on his business enterprises.
