DescriptionAmbrotype or tintype of J.J. Cureton in case. Cureton is wearing a hat, suit, and tie. In his left hand he is holding a fluted colt pistol (in 1861 only 1000 were made). In his right hand he is holding a two-handled D-guard Bowie knife. The ambrotype is encased in a lightweight embossed gilt mat.

Stored along with the ambrotype are four clippings, three of which are lithographs of Greek or Roman statues, while the fourth is song lyrics.

The ambrotype is a type of photograph that uses a glass negative with a black background making the image appear positive. Popular during the 1850's and 1860's. Patented by James Ambrose Cutting.
