    Little Rock, Ark
    April 21, 1863
    My Dear Fannie,
    I write you a line to remind you that you have 3 brothers in the city of Little Rock and we are all well & doing well. We are all at work in the State Arsenal at this plase [sic]. We have a fine time & as helthy [sic] a plase [sic] as there is in this portion(?) of country. We work & sleep & eat in the baryx [sic]. We have a fine garden coming on & in a few days or weeks at most. (?) (?) Glover landed here the 16th of April. Who said that he hird [sic] from you all about a week before he left & you was [sic] all well which gave us mutch [sic] satisfaction. We have hird [sic] from you all several times since we all come hier [sic]. But have received but one letter & that from Lizzie. I have written half dozen letters to one and another of you & you have as I supose [sic] denied me the satisfaction by (?) of my (?). I have written some 6 letters to J M Webster. I do not think that I (?) them to the rite [sic] place. C.L. Webster is writing one to him (?). We have learned that our brother, Andrew is in the 2nd Arks Fed Ridgment [sic] (?) (?) but I hope that he has had good advise, enough to do right. It is reported that we have whiped [sic] the (?) at Helena, Ark there being but a small forse [sic] there. We lirn [sic] that there has been a considerable battle in Louisania [sic] but have not lirned [sic] the result. The troops composing our brigade are about 3 miles south E. of this city. It is believed that the commanders, Gen. Price & Gen. (?) Homes [sic] are wating [sic] for Priceses [sic] (?) to come (?) (?) here. They will come as soon as they can be spared at that place.
    If you can get a letter to Van Buren or Fort Smith & mail it there it will come hear [sic] by mail. I will try to get some stamps & send to you all so as you can stamp & (?) your letters to Little Rock (?) as we will not be likeley [sic] to leave hear(?) (?) the troops (?).
    I must close my long letter. I do give a special invitation to Friend in Old Washington Co. to write to me. Give my best to (?) and to all the Family and friends.
