I now take my seat to drop you a few lines to answer your kind letter I received a few days since. I wrote to Pa and Ma a few days ago. Mr. Mc(?) is going to send his boy home and I will send this by him. He says that he can bring me anything you want to send. Kate, I wish you would send me a pair of pants and a pair of socks if you have them and if you have not, you need not (?). Please put in a few patches. Kate, please look in my coat pocket and get that kneedle [sic] book of mine and send that and some thread. You can find out when he will come back and send them up to (?). He says that he can bring anything that I want. That is all that I need.
Kate, I will send you a ring in this. It's not a very nice one but it is all (?) I have made. I am sorry to hear that your school was so soon over. I received a letter from A.H.C. a few days ago. He said that William was sick with fevar [sic]. Tell him to write soon and give me all the news. Tell Mrs. Morris that Mr. Morris is will and in good helth [sic] and that Mrs. Jeffers is well. All the boys that you are acquainted with are well. You said that you have no wedding in that past of yours (?). You talk like you never expected to mary [sic]. That is a very good notion(?) to take but to mary [sic] until the war is over.
Kate, I have no news to write to you. We are yet at Monticello. No news as I no [sic] of on hand. Parson's Brigade came here the other day. They are campt [sic] (?) miles from us. I have not been down there yet. I will go down there in a few days to see John Wood. We have pretty hard guard duty to do every 4 days. Coln(?) Williams leaves for home tomorrow. The Coln is not much beliked by his men. Kate, write (?) and tell Ma and Pa to write. We have a big revivle [sic] in our camps. A good many have (?). It has been going on too [sic] or three weeks. I wrote to you that we foraged a rite smart but forrage has (?) out here. There is nothing to get in this part of the world. I must came to a close for the night. I haven't much to do about camps and mess has a cook hired to do our cooking. Tell Jimmie to write to me and Sam Cramer to and I will answer them. Tell Sam that Peet is well, that me and Peet killed a fine mudlark(?) today - that is a hog(?). I must come to a close. I will finish in the morning. Good By [sic] A.H. Reyn.

Kate, Mr. Mack says that his boy will stay at home 5 or 6 days. You can find out when he will leave better than (?). I will send Jimmie's ten rounds of ammunition if he can carry it. Tell Mag that I will make her a ring if I can get the material. It is very high and scarse enough to make. One ring is $20. We have not been paid any yet. But I have plenty such as it is. I have about 15(?) dollars which will do me until we draw. Write soon and tell me all the news. We here [sic] that Atlanta is gone up and that Richmond is on the (?) but I can't beleave [sic] all that. I hear there is (?) (?). I must come to a close. Give my love to all and except [sic] the same.
