These lines were found upon the body of an Officer of one of the Ohio regiments, written upon the back of an "Extra" announcing the assassination of President Lincoln, and addressed to his wife, to whom he was returning after two years of confinement in southern prisons. The music was composed and sung by James A. Barney of Morris & Wilson's Opera House and Published by Endres & Co., 52 Fourth St. This inside of the front cover and the very back cover contain other Endres songs available with small snipits of the songs lyrics and prices.
