General:
I have {?} to {?} the five {?} recommendations to fill the staff positions of this Regiment which was organized on 11th instant towit:
For Asst. quartermaster, Capt. Henry C. Belles
For Asst. {?} {?}, Capt. Francis H. Moody [this recommendation has been marked through on the letter]
For Adjutant 1st Lieut: John P. Bull{?}
I respectfully request that those officers take rank from 31st March, 1863, the time they commenced performing the duties of their respective positions.
Capt. Belles is 28 years old, a citizen of Lexington, Missouri. He served for nine months as quartermaster of Bles(?)'s Missouri Regiment and afterwards for five months as clerk in the office of Major Monroe {?} of Paron's Brigade. He is of temperate, steady habits, of {?} energy and well qualified for the position.
Captain Moody is thirty-three years of age and a citizen of Little Rock, Arkansas. He has never before been in the service of the Confederate States except as clerk or agent of Major John B. Burton (there acting as chief quartermaster of the Trans Miss. Department), in which capacity he served a month or two. He is of steady habits, good business capacity and well qualified for the positionj for which he is recommended.
Lieut. Bull{?} is twenty four years of age and a citizen of St. Louis, Missouri. He has been in military service - first in that of Missouri and since in that of the Confederate States for two years. He has heretofore performed the duties of adjutant, is of good moral character and well qualified for the position.
