DescriptionPage from the magazine "Our World" with a feature story on West Helena native William Warfield.

William Warfield was a concert bass-baritone singer and actor born in West Helena, Arkansas, in 1920. Warfield is best known for his roles in “Porgy and Bess” and in the film version of “Showboat." He is largely credited with performing the best rendition of the classic song "Ol Man River." He acted in five films. Warfield still performed up until his death in 2002.

A page out of the magazine "Our World" with a feature story on Arkansas native William Warfield -- a black and white feature photo of Warfield is printed to the left of the article. The article has a title and subtitle that read, "The Voice of Show Boat: From obscurity to fame in two years is the record of sensational new baritone, William Warfield. The critics say he will reach top." In the 1951 MGM movie, Warfield played the role of "Joe," who sings a well-known rendition of the drama "Ol Man River." The article also features a smaller profile picture inset in the middle of the page. At the top of the article is a handwritten note and autograph: "To: Frances / Sincerely, William Warfield." The autograph is dated Feb. 26th, 1956.
