DescriptionPortrait of Col. T.H. Barton painted on March 1, 1938 by Arkansan portrait artist Adrian Brewer.

Colonel Thomas H. Barton (1881-1960), was the most significant influence in forming the modern State Fair in Arkansas. His entrepreneurial passion, financial commitment, and economic vision led to the creation and growth of the Arkansas Livestock Show Association. Barton was the principal stakeholder and president of Lion Oil Refining Company in El Dorado. He used his considerable wealth to help finance the fair in the early days. Upon completion of the coliseum at the Little Rock State Fair Grounds and in recognition of his leadership and vision, the coliseum was named for him in 1952.
