DescriptionA quilt made of campaign ties worn by Sid McMath on the campaign trail. Some of the ties have been hand-painted or embellished with beads, sequins and appliques such as the red tie with a horse. Other ties have been painted with sayings such as "S.M. Are You Behind Arkansas" or "I am For McMath" which is painted on a cut out of the state of Arkansas on red tie. Other ties include the outline of Arkansas with a star in the location of Little Rock such as the burgundy tie with the outline of Arkansas and the star on top of a gavel, all of which was hand-painted. The quilt was made by Anne McMath(?), Gov. McMath's wife.

Sidney “Sid” Sanders McMath was born June 14, 1912 in Columbia County, Arkansas. In 1948 McMath was elected Governor of Arkansas. During his four years as governor he was able to add more than 2,000 miles to the state highway system, extended power to all regions of the state, secure funds for the School of Medicine at the University of Arkansas (now the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences), and help to consolidate and integrate schools. The governor’s mansion was completed 1949, and the McMath family became its first residents. He died on October 4, 2003 in Little Rock.
