DescriptionA black and white photograph of Jim Guy Tucker and wife Betty at the opening session of the White House Conference on Families at the Convention Center in 1980. Tucker was appointed as the conference chairman by President Jimmy Carter.

James “Jim” Guy Tucker Jr. was born on June 13, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On November 8, 1975 he married Betty Allen Alworth. In 1990, Tucker won the race for Lieutenant Governor, and he became acting Governor when Clinton began his presidential campaign. Tucker then became governor in December 1992 upon Clinton’s resignation, and in 1994 Tucker was elected the forty-third Governor of Arkansas. After he left office, Tucker went on to focus on his business enterprises.

As First Lady, Betty Tucker worked for the Kindergarten through Third Grade Initiative, which helped strengthen the state's young students. She also served on the boards of the Arkansas Arts Center and Arkansas Children's Hospital.
