DescriptionCarte de Visite of Logan H. Roots. Roots enlisted in the 81st Illinois Infantry on August 26, 1862 as a 1st Lieutenant. He eventually rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel shortly after the Civil War. He was appointed a U.S. Marshall by President Grant and also served as a Congressman for Arkansas. Photograph taken by F.W. Ingmire in Springfield, Illinois.
