DescriptionBaseball card of Pittsburgh Allegheny’s (Pirates) shortstop, Robert “Bob” Allen (1867-1943).  Allen signed with Pittsburgh in 1888 but only played a short time in 1889. The next year he signed with Philadelphia Phillies where he played until 1894. In 1897 Allen signed with the Detroit Tigers, Boston Bean Eaters (Red Sox), and Indianapolis Hoosiers. His final year in the Major league was with the Cincinnati Reds where once again he played shortstop and was the team manager. Allen retired from baseball and entered the lumber business which brought him to Little Rock, Arkansas. Allen owned (1915-1931) the Little Rock Travelers. He died here in 1943.
