Col
Recd your letter. Am obliged to you for the interest you have taken to accomodate me. Like yourself I am of the opinion Dixon's(?) company is an independent company.
Falkner, whom I detained here & who you say need badly is at this post a very useful man. At this time he is on White River a guide for a scout sent there yesterday. Circumstances induce me to believe it probably the rebels {?} threaten Elk Horn but either attack this place or attempt to destroy communications on the {?} with their cavalry I will send Falkner to you soon as he returns. The object of the scout south is to observe & ascertain if that cavalry is approaching. If you can spare Falkner a few days longer you would confer(?) a force on this post.
I send George A. Lamb(?) to you a prisoner. He comes into my lines under circumstances inducing me to regard him somewhat in the light of a spy from the rebel army. You can ascertain by telegraph his true character. Having commanded the spies for our army & he is acting about as I have directed him to act is to say the least very suspicious.
You can act with him as you may deem just & proper. He no doubt is aware of the movements of our army.
Anything I can do for you will be promptly attended to.
I am sir very respectfully
John M. Richardson
