DescriptionConfederate States of America, First National battle flag pattern belonging to Hart's Battery also known as the "Dallas Artillery" dated to 1861. The backing of the flag is all that is left of the flag. The upper left corner is a dark blue field with nine small five-point white stars in a circle around one larger white star in the center. The remainder of the flag consists of three horizontal bars: red on the top, white in the center, and red on the bottom. The white bar has two crossed cannons with a large cannon ball with a flame above it. Below the cannons are three small cannon balls stacked in a triangle. Painted one each cannon are the words "Dallas Artillery." The design is painted in white just left of the center. The leading edge has a hoist that appears to be heavy cotton with a rope inserted in the fold for attachment.

Hart's Battery was organized at Dallas, Polk County, Arkansas in August, 1861. Hart's battery fought at the battle of Elk Horn Tavern (Pea Ridge) and their colors were captured at the battle of Arkansas Post on January 11, 1863. Afterwards, the unit was reorganized and continued to serve for the remainder of the war in Arkansas.
