DescriptionMississippi Rifle Powder Flask. This is a 1849 dated Batty flask. According to a signed and notarized statement from a decendant this flask belonged James Ross in the 12th Tennessee Cavalry.

James Ross was born December 10, 1839 in Greenville, Tennessee. He served in Co. B of the 12th Tennessee Cavalry Battallion from May 21, 1862 until the end of the war. He spent 15 months as a prisoner of war at Rock Island, Illinois. After the war, Ross and his family moved to Cane Hill, Arkansas. He died in 1917 and is buried in Cane Hill Cemetery in Cane Hill. The flask was passed down through the Ross family.
