The article is dated February 8, 1893 and describes the famous Pike-Roane duel that followed the Mexican War. Articles appeared in the newspaper criticizing the military leadership of Pike and Roane at the battle of Beuna Vista. A challenge was offered and agreed upon in Indian Country across from Fort Smith, Arkansas. Neither Pike or Roane was wounded and both retired to Fort Smith for a meal following the duel.
