Betty Bumpers was the thirty-fifth First Lady of Arkansas (1971-1975). Her “Every Child in ‘74” was implemented in 1972, to have every child in the state immunized against childhood diseases. Peace Links, an organization, which Betty founded in 1982, was an effort to persuade political leaders to develop alternatives to nuclear war.
